Art Pro Mpa Ii Two patnitop hotel Channel Mic Preamp Tested W

My gain was “Low” and upon providing patnitop hotel the mp3 to my client who then aired it on his radio program the engineer had to really boost up the volume. I then purchased a dbx286s pre amp and had researched that a evre 20 needs at least 50db to bring up to level. If i want the raw audio i bypass the processor and boost up the gain to about 57db with 3 inch distance from the mic. If i use the processor i use about 2 decibals on the output and 47 on the input.

The power source must provide a good ground connection. Aside from two vacuum tubes, there are no user serviceable parts inside. Refer any service work to qualified technical personnel only. For products under $200 experiencing the above failures, a Musician’s Friend gift card will be issued for the full price of the product + tax. The build quality is good and all the buttons and knobs feel solid and the gain is stepped which makes dialing in easy.

  • Not that I didn’t upgrade the tubes, either.
  • The Pro MPA II can operate at either a low or high plate voltage on the two integrated hand-selected 12AX7 tubes for wider variation of preamp tone and performance.
  • I would stick with that – unless you want a different “color” of preamp.
  • It does not blow and can have a very good output level regardless of the mic it requires.
  • Even when you get the digital working, IMO the converters on the thing sound worse than analog in to an audio interface.

Seriously though avoid all tube gear that costs less than $1500. To build good tube gear is expensive, cheap tube gear has the tube as a gimmick to get you to buy it. Plus I noticed theres about a 22 sample delay when recording from its digital out …. I realize asking this question here will make most people say “neither”.. And I know I’ll get the whole “then save up your budget to afford a better preamp”..

Should I just increase the input level on the scarlett as well as the Art to bring up the level enough. I was looking at buying the Apollo Twin but UAD said I couldn’t bypass the preamp like I can with my Apogee Duet to connect my LA610. They said I could connect at Line but here would be some noise and possible color. Additionally, I’d have to adjust Twin level and my LA610 level. Connecting a nice pre to an audio interface that doesn’t have preamp bypass doesn’t sound like my cup of tea.

Digital Delivery

In addition to XLR and 1/4″ analog outputs, the Digital MPA-II features a high quality A to D converter which offers digital connectivity on S/PDIF, ADAT, or AES/EBU outputs. A rotary control on the front panel allows selection of format and sample rates from 44.1 to 192 KHz and 16 bit dithering. There is also a push button for, and two wordclock jacks, allowing loop-through. Useful extra features, such as variable input impedance and M/S decoding.

I have two MPA golds, one with the Telefukens and one with a pair of GE 12AY7’s . The 12AY7 seems to have sweeter highs, but aren’t as present in the bass region. So I’ll switch between the two units depending on what I’m looking for.

It is far from the preamp tube to cheap for home studio. I like the “plate voltage” which when activated, provides gloss and pronounced trs trs effective. Everyone that is into tubes eventually has the itch to swap them out and try something different.

ART’s tube compression circuitry is a hybrid design utilizing the most advanced analog and tube technology, and has exceptional signal integrity with extremely low noise. In making the Pro-VLA II, ART sought to go above and beyond what typical VCA-driven compressors do, and create a tube compressor that adds a musical, natural, expressive touch to your sound. I’m still unsure what I should set my Audio interface gain knob to when working this way. Id love to know how to find Unity or nominal gain on it for piece of mind, but for now ill just use my ears. So far I simply drop the volume to zero on the Uphoria Interface and I’m doing my gain from the external pre and compressor . Hmmm – is the mud just something you can EQ out?

I have finally opted for a pair of Bugle Boys, and I have a pair of vintage used ones, not NOS, on incoming at a fair price, so we’ll see after I have received them. My second option is a pair of Sylvanias but I really want to give the boys a shot first as I think their character is what I actually would prefer the most. One of the sources of information, as many of you already seem to have found, is postings here on GS from the user BOWIE, that have been of great value in my decision making. Then there’s the attached file, that contains a little listing of some of the tubes out there, and their character . I got me an ART Pro MPA II some days ago and have since I decided to order it tried to find out if it makes sense to upgrade the tubes, and if so, what tubes to get.
